North Terrace is a street in
Adelaide, the capital city of
South Australia. It runs east-to-west, and is the northernmost street in the grid of the city's
central business district.
Theoretically, the northern side of North Terrace is part of the
Adelaide Parklands. However, much of the space between North Terrace and the
River Torrens is now occupied by cultural institutions. These include:
The southern side of the street includes the large new City West campus of the University of South Australia, the exclusive and historic
Adelaide Club, part of the
Rundle Mall shopping precinct, the historic
Ayers House, and some of the commercial buildings of the city.
As of
October 2007, the
Glenelg Tram operates along the western half of North Terrace. One stop is located adjacent to the
Adelaide Railway Station, and the service terminates at the
University of South Australia City West campus.
